The Mesquite Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Oct. 18 in the 3700 block of Towne Crossing Boulevard. Dozens of residents were displaced.
The structure sustained heavy damage and resulted in two alarms, meaning assistance from additional equipment and manpower was required to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries. A total of 16 apartment units were destroyed. The cause of the fire is unknown, and the incident is under investigation.
The City of Mesquite provided shelter overnight for those who were displaced and is working with the American Red Cross. Sharing Life, a local charitable organization based in Mesquite, is also providing relief.
