On Aug.12, 2023, at 6:46 p.m., Mesquite Police Officers were dispatched to a shooting inside Town East Mall. Several callers reported hearing gunfire in the lower level of the mall by the entrance closest to IH-635.
Officers quickly responded and located the suspect still in the lower level area of the mall. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Officers located one victim who was transported to a local area hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
The investigation revealed that both the suspect and victim knew each other, and the incident was the result of an altercation between the two inside a store in the lower level of the mall.
The suspect was identified as Zettie Minter, a 39-year-old male from Dallas. Minter is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, as well as Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
No other injuries were reported from this event. Officers located and arrested the suspect within 5 minutes of the initial calls. The Mesquite Police Department would like to highlight the swift actions of Town East Mall security officers at the location who quickly contained the suspect and directed officers to his location.
