The Mesquite Animal Shelter is once again participating in the national Clear the Shelters initiative that promotes pet adoption and donations in August.
On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Animal Shelter will host a special one-day adoption event, waiving all fees. Shelter pets available for adoption are sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped.
“We’re proud to participate in Clear the Shelters and put on this event,” said Hugo Espinoza, Animal Services Manager. “We truly hope to help find every animal in the shelter a forever home on Aug. 26.”
In addition to the one-day event, pet adoption fees throughout the month of August are reduced when a donation of a jar of jelly, peanut butter or seed butter is made to the City’s Spread the Love campaign. The shelter has a collection bin for Spread the Love, which helps feed children in need in Mesquite.
Not able to adopt a pet? Financial contributions or donations of items are welcome during Clear the Shelters month. Find out what to donate and see the shelter’s Amazon Wish List at www.cityofmesquite.com/AnimalServicesDonations.
Clear The Shelters was started in 2015 by NBCUniversal Local and is now cohosted with Telemundo. The nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign runs from Aug. 1-31. Across the country, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 860,000 pets find new homes. Last year’s campaign set a new single-year record with more than 161,000 adoptions, while also raising more than $540,000.
