Officials from City of Mesquite and Urban Logistics Realty celebrated the opening of Alcott Station Park on June 14.
The unique five-acre park is situated on the east side of Mesquite, at E. Glen Blvd. and E. Scyene Road, in the 100-acre Alcott Station business park that encompasses 1.5 million square feet of industrial space.
The vision for Alcott Station Park, which includes a playground for kids, a fitness area for adults, a two-mile walking trail, and a small dog park, is that it would be an oasis for the estimated 1,600 employees who will work nearby as well as for residents in the surrounding neighborhood.
“Alcott Station Park provides a recreation area for our ‘industrial citizens’ as well as our residents, said Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. “Our hope is that the park and the trail system will be a place of rejuvenation for all who visit.”
Alcott Station is the result of a partnership between the City of Mesquite and Urban Logistics Realty, a Dallas-based company which also developed Urban District 30 in Mesquite.
“Mesquite is a pro-business city and has been the best community we’ve worked with,” Jason Nunely, Co-Managing Partner with Urban Logistics Realty. “We envision Alcott Station Park as a central hub and a gathering place.”
Alcott Station Park will be part of the City of Mesquite’s award-winning Parks and Recreation Department, which manages a system of more than 70 parks. The new park and the surrounding business complex are named for A.R. Alcott, an engineer with Texas & Pacific Railroad. One hundred and fifty years ago – in May of 1873 – he filed the first plat in the township of Mesquite.
Companies already committed to moving into Alcott Station include Vehicle Accessories, Inc. and RJW Logistics. Together, these companies will bring in nearly 600 jobs, providing career opportunities for residents, especially in the growing Mesquite Metro Airport corridor.
