Mesquite, TX – March 10, 2023 – Another Downtown Mesquite building will soon receive an update made possible by the Downtown Mesquite Façade Improvement Grant program.
The property at 200 W. Davis St., owned by the Watts Family Trust, is currently occupied by the Lindstrom Law Firm. It is at the intersection of Gibson and Davis Streets. The City Council unanimously approved the application for $2,941.62, which represents 50% of the anticipated cost of the façade improvement.
“This project is pretty straightforward in terms of the proposed work,” said Downtown Development Manager Beverly Abell. “Though there is no major construction involved, I think the transformation created by paint alone will prove to be quite dramatic and will very much enhance not only the property, but that area of downtown.”
The Downtown Mesquite Façade Improvement Grant Program was created in May 2019 to improve the economic viability and performance of the downtown development program area. Property and business owners are eligible for a 50% reimbursement of approved property improvement projects up to $20,000 per address. Projects must be conducted within guidelines of the program, which utilizes the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservation as its guide. Applications are reviewed by the Downtown Mesquite Development Advisory Board, which makes a recommendation to the Council to approval or deny the request.
Property and business owners have access to free architectural consultation and design services via the Texas Main Street program of the Texas Historical Commission. Mesquite’s downtown has been designated as a Texas Main Street program area since 2019. More than 30 properties throughout downtown have been the subject of those services.
