Mesquite, TX – June 3, 2020 – Neighborhood Services presented the City of Mesquite’s quarterly environmental code report during the City Council meeting on June 1. The report covered the second quarter of fiscal year 2020, including statistics on environmental code violations and complaints and how the myMesquite app affected the number of code violations reported.
In the second quarter, the number of violations decreased from the same quarter in 2019. There were just over 8,500 violations in 2020 compared to more than 10,000 in 2019. The number of complaints increased from 273 during the same period last year to 710 in 2020.
Maria Martinez, the Director of Neighborhood Services said “There was quite an uptick in the complaints which is a direct reflection of our complaint module in myMesquite…The app went live around January 20 and so we got 341 code violations identified through the myMesquite app during that time. That’s a 160% increase of complaints received for code violations.”
The average number of days it takes Neighborhood Services to complete a case was down during the second quarter to 22 days from 24 days during the same time last year.
Martinez said, “Voluntary compliance continues to take the lead as the number one method of compliance as 91% of cases were resolved voluntarily. Voluntary compliance is overwhelmingly the key and that’s where we want it to be.”
