Mesquite, TX – March 11, 2020 – Spring weather has made it to Mesquite and the City of Mesquite provides a friendly reminder to its residents that a quality neighborhood starts with them. Here are a few code tips to look out for now that warmer temperatures are back.
- Grass – Grass must be mowed regularly and be no higher than eight inches tall.
- Trash – Yards must be well-kept, clean and free of loose trash and debris.
- Trimmed Trees – Trees and vegetation must be well-maintained. All trees must be trimmed at least 10 feet above the sidewalk and 14 feet above the street and alley and not encroaching into the right of way.
- Landscaping – Landscaping must be well-maintained and may not cover more than 75% of the structure when viewed from the street.
A Notice of Violation will be mailed to the property owners and residents when a violation is observed or discovered. Maria Martinez, Director of Neighborhood Services, said, “Our goal is to educate residents on city codes and gain compliance. Our community is very responsive, as we currently have a 91% voluntary compliance rate. We want to educate, before we enforce.” She explained that each violation type has different timelines for corrective action.
The timeline will be listed on a Notice of Violation. For more time, residents may contact the Code Inspector who issued the Notice and request an extension.
If the violation has not been brought into compliance after the re-inspection date, the Code Inspector may generate a work order to have the violation abated and/or issue a citation through the Municipal Court.
