Recycled Fashion Show
Keep Mesquite Beautiful is proud host the Recycled Fashion Show at Town East Mall. Students of all ages (K - College) and businesses, groups and organizations are invited to show their created costume(s) made from recycled materials.
RECYCLING FASHION SHOW/FLORA AND FAUNA COSTUME CONTEST OVERVIEW
Keep Mesquite Beautiful is proud to offer the annual Recycling Fashion Show’s costume contest. This event is intended to educate the public about recycling in a fun and interactive environment. Mesquite children of all ages and clubs, organizations, and businesses are invited to show their created costume made from recycled materials.
WHO MAY ENTER:
Any child, adult, or group. Maximum one entry per person.
WHERE/WHEN:
Saturday, November 11th
Town East Mall
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
COST OF ENTRY:
Minimum $5 donation due at time of application.
DIVISIONS:
Costume show contestants shall be judged in the following divisions:
- K – 4th Grade
- 5th – 8th Grade
- 9th – 12th Grade
- College
- Adult
- Business or Organization GROUP Division
Any group, business, or organization may enter and work as a collaborative team.
DEADLINE DATE FOR ENTRY:
Entry forms must be completed and turned in no later than Monday, November 1. No walk-ups or late entries will be accepted. Contestants may pre-register online or by sending completed forms to, kmb@cityofmesquite.com or 1616 N Galloway Mesquite, TX 75149.
COSTUME SPECIFICATIONS:
All Recycling Show entries may contain only recyclable materials. These can include cardboard, steel/tin, recycled fabric or clothing, aluminum, plastics, paper cartons, chipboard, newspaper, mixed papers (magazines, junk mail, and catalogs), paper bags, and glass. New items may be used in small amounts (i.e. tape, glue, small embellishments). *Recycled clothing or fabric may be used but must be altered so as not to be worn in its original state.
Footwear, jewelry, purses, and other accessories: May be used to enhance the overall costume but model must be able to safely walk across stage and up and down stairs. In any case, safe shoes must be worn whether they are recycled or street shoes.
JUDGING CATEGORIES:
All contestants will be judged according to the following areas:
- Overall Look
- Effort
- Environmental Message
- Creativity
Submissions must be original, must be the work of the submitting Applicant, and cannot infringe on any copyright, other intellectual property right, or the rights of privacy or publicity or any other right(s) of any third party (best to stay away from prominently displaying company logos unless you can supply written consent).
Applicants should keep in mind the fashion show will be held inside a mall and children will be present. Fashions that are offensive, obscene, or too revealing will not be allowed on the runway. Only the designer is eligible for an award.
ARTIST’S RESPONSIBILITY:
All artists will be responsible for supplying a model for the fashion show, be it themselves, a friend, or other model. Artists/models will be responsible for participation in the fashion show and transportation to and from Town East Mall on November 11th.
Please take note that backstage space is limited to mall bathrooms. Your outfit must allow the model to climb a few stairs, walk the stage and return down the stairs to exit. The outfit also must fit through a three-foot-wide doorway. We encourage you to create fashions that are fun, creative, and functional for normal activities.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:
Please make sure that materials used in pieces are safe to yourself and the public.
JUDGING:
Entries will be judged by an impartial panel of judges.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:
By participating, applicants and artists agree that they meet the eligibility requirements as stated in the 2016 Recycling Fashion Show Application Packet by Keep Mesquite Beautiful. By applying and/or participating, applicants and artists agree to 1) abide by official rules and decisions of producers, host and judges 2) to hold harmless producers, host, sponsors, employees, volunteers, and others involved in planning or production of event from any claims, actions, or demands, losses, damages, or liabilities arising out of their participation in the contest and any related activities.
