Road Construction Around the Airport
Great news! Construction on Scyene Road is finished and Scyene is now open from Airport Blvd. to Lawson Road. Visitors can now get to the Airport from either direction on Scyene Road.
With the exception of Berry Road, all major roadway construction around the airport is now complete. Unfortunately, Berry Road is closed indefinitely at this time.
Sycene Road is no open from Clay Mathis Rd. to Airport Blvd., and closed from Airport Blvd to Lawson Road. All vehicle traffic coming to the airport will have to come from the west.
The Scyene road project has experience some major delays, but we are finally starting to see some movement again. The waterline installed by the contractor has finally passed inspections which is now allowing the crews to remove the old waterline and place the new power poles and lines. Once the movement of these utilities has been completed the paving crews will be able to come back in and finish paving up to the existing Airport Blvd.
I was told that we can anticipate the traffic route to the airport staying the same until around the beginning of February.
Starting March 15, 2018, Scyene Road will be closed from Clay Mathis Road to Airport Blvd. This closure is expected to last six months as construction crews replace this stretch of Scyene Rd. In order to access the airport during this construction project, visitors will have to travel via Lawson Rd., turn west on Scyene Rd., then south on Airport Blvd.
Starting March 5, 2018, Berry Road will be closed from Faithon P. Lucas Sr Blvd. to Edwards Church Road. This closure is expected to last six months as construction crews upgrade draining channels crossing under Berry Rd. When needing to access the airport from this direction, visitors will have to travel south on Clay Mathis Rd. then turn north on Lawson Rd., turn west on Scyene Rd., then south on Airport Blvd.
