2016 Meritorious Awards

Each year the Mesquite Fire Department honors its employees through a presentation of awards for superior public service to our citizens. This year 46 individuals were honored for their professional and courageous service. The following individuals were presented with their respective awards on February 15 at the Mesquite City Council meeting.

Fire Service Recognition Bar



The Fire Service Recognition Bar is given to members of the department who provide service beyond that which is called for in their job description. It is given to members who contribute their time, equipment and/or expertise to better the community, the Fire Department or the Fire Service. This year four Fire Service Recognition Bar awards were given: two awards to individuals, and two awards to separate engine crews.

Recognized were Captain David Shedd; Firefighter/Paramedic David Lester; Engine 2 - Driver-Engineer/Paramedic Matt Haisten, Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Small, and Firefigher/Paramedic Eric Wright; and Engine 6 - Captain Dan Williams, Driver-Engineer/Paramedic Travis Edwards, Firefighter/Paramedic Anthony Shrum and Firefighter/Paramedic Jeremy Stroope.

Lifesaving Awards



This year six lifesaving awards were presented to 37 firefighters representing 10 companies and five fire stations. Those individuals recognized for their courageous service are listed below along with the dates of the lifesaving events. Links to information about each event are also offered.
