HOME (Helping Others in Mesquite Everyday)

Helping Others in Mesquite Everyday (HOME) is a new initiative to support neighborhood revitalization and redevelopment in the Mesquite Community. HOME embraces the spirit of the highly successful Addressing Mesquite Day on a continuous basis. Addressing Mesquite Day is one of the largest one-day volunteer events in the North Texas region in which volunteers gather to perform needed tasks for the elderly and disabled residents. HOME is made possible through a collaborative partnership between Keep Mesquite Beautiful, the City of Mesquite and community volunteers.
Mesquite Mayor Stan Pickett recently discussed the new HOME program on KEOM. Go to the Mayor's Radio Show to hear the broadcast and find out more.

Mesquite homeowners will receive aid through the HOME program based upon staff referrals from the City of Mesquite Code Enforcement . Volunteer groups and contractor partners, providing services at reduced costs, will be perform exterior house and yard repairs. Overall management of the program will be the responsibility of the Housing and Community Services Department.

There are three ways to get involved with the HOME initiative.

1. Volunteer
Like Addressing Mesquite Day, work on some houses involved with the HOME program will be completed by volunteers. Past AMD groups and new groups who have reached out to the City will be the first targeted for assistance. If you have a group that is interested in participating in the HOME initiative, please contact Valerie Bradley at [email protected]

2. Contractors
Contractors are needed for instances where the code violations at a HOME house require extensive work. The HOME initiative is seeking referrals for contractors who may be willing to charge reduced rates as part of participation in the program.

3. Donors
The HOME initiative is also seeking donations from the community in support of the program. Since the remediation of code violations occurs on private property, City funds cannot be used and community support is needed. City staff has developed a fundraising program with the following recognition levels:

Resident Level Giving
$25-$99:  Friend
$99-$249: Neighbor
$250 and above: Community Builder

Business Partner Giving
$100-$999: Partner
$1,000-$2,499 Benefactor
$2,500 and above: Investor
