Can't Keep Your Pet? Click Here First!
If you are unable to keep your pet and are considering surrendering you pet to Mesquite Animal Services, please check these resources first. Mesquite Animal Services is an open-admission shelter which means we always have to have space available for stray animals. Owner surrenders are not guaranteed a hold time and, if surrendered when no space is available, they may be in danger of being euthanized right away.
Owner surrenders are done by appointment only and appointments are done by phone.
As soon as you feel you may have to find a new home for your pet, email rescues@cityofmesquite.com with the following information:
In many cases, the staff at Mesquite Animal Services can help provide outside resources that will enable you to keep your pet or find an alternative to surrendering to the shelter. We also encourage you to contact Dallas Pets Alive with the same information at pass@dallaspetsalive.org. They have many resources outside of Mesquite that MAS may not have.
If you want to be sure your pet goes to a home that you approve of, you can list your pet here: rehome.adoptapet.com/r/96160.
This site will enable potential adopters to complete an adoption application that you receive, review and approve. You will meet with potential adopters and the new adopter will take ownership of your pet only if you agree. The adoption fee is donated to Mesquite Animal Services. We suggest you do all meet and greets in a neutral location and welcome you to use the MAS play yard during normal business hours or with other arrangements by calling 972-216-6283 or emailing rescues@cityofmesquite.com.
