SUMMER CAMP RESPONSE TO COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mesquite Parks & Recreation, with guidance from the public health officials, has developed new protocol to do our part to safely operate day camp at our facilities. While noticeable changes are in place, campers and families will still experience the fun, high-energy camp they know and love.

Camp Locations

To reduce camp numbers to safely operate within facilities,  camps will only be held at Rutherford Recreation Center (900 Rutherford Rd) and Florence Recreation Center (2501 Whitson Way).  Field trips and swim days have been canceled for the summer, we apologize for this inconvenience. Mesquite Parks and Recreation will continue to provide a variety of games, crafts, and activities to create a fun and engaging experience for campers.

Registration

Camps will begin Monday, June 22. Registration will be available online at www.cityofmesquite.com/summercamp or in person at the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 1515 N Galloway Ave beginning June 8th. Registration will not be available at the recreation centers at this time. Space is limited. Advanced registration is required. Payment is due at the time of registration. A minimum of 30 registered participants are required each week for the camp to be held. If the minimum registration number is not met by 6pm on the Thursday before the week of camp, the camp will be cancelled. If camp is cancelled due to insufficient registration, participants will be notified via phone and issued a full refund.

Drop Off / Pick-Up

Each camp is designating a camp drop-off and pick-up zone. Parents and guardians should remain in their vehicles at camper drop-off and pick-up.  The designated times for   drop-off and pick-up are  - 7:00AM - 9:00AM  &  4:00PM - 6:00PM. Anyone needing assistance with dropping off or picking up outside these designated times must contact the center.

Temperature Check

Temperature checks will be performed upon camper arrival each day. If a camper is found to have an elevated temperature (100.0 degrees or higher), a second temperature check will be performed after 2 minutes. If the camper’s elevated temperature persists, they will not be allowed to attend camp.

The camper may not return until they are fever-free for at least 48 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

Camp Program & Design

Mesquite Parks & Recreation staff are working diligently to program a great summer. Here are ways we are doing our part to keep campers safe:

· Reduced camp numbers to safely operate within the facility.
· Developing camp schedules and activities that encourage campers to social distance.
· Increased daily sanitation protocols.
