PHYSICAL PLAN PAYING FISCAL DIVIDENDS IN MESQUITE CREATING MULTI-YEAR ZERO PERCENT INCREASES FOR HEALTH INSURANCE
(Mesquite, Texas) This fiscal year marks three years and running for zero percent health care insurance increases in Mesquite.
As the sign-up period closes for health insurance plans today, many national surveys show an average six percent increase in health insurance this year for wokers. However, the City of Mesquite has been able to hold the line on increases through the development of its own Mesquite Employee Health Clinic (MEHC).
The City partnered with the Mesquite Independent School District to create their own clinic to curb insurance costs after experiencing double-digit increases from 2000 to 2006. Since the establishment of the MEHC in February 2007 the Citys self-insured medical plan has experienced zero increases.
The savings to the City can be speculated based on the trend, which shows Mesquite has saved itself, and the taxpayers and employees, around $3,000,000.
Reasons for savings:
MEHC allows Mesquite to lower the costs for a medical office visit.
MEHC can purchase drugs at a savings of 10 15%.
MEHC enables employees to reduce absence due to doctor visits and ill days from work with prompt treatment and appropriate medication.
