Meet Mathew McCloud. Mathew grew up in Allen, Texas. He graduated from Allen High School in 2001 and received a bachelors degree in criminal justice from The University of North Texas five years later. Mathew is an avid water fowler and played competitive soccer for eight years. Mr. McCloud was hired by the Mesquite Police Department on May 3, 2006. As if all this wasn't enough, Mathew was married in the Summer of 2006!

Mathew says that he fell into this career by accident. “If anyone had told me that I would be a police officer,” Mathew jokes, “I'd have said, no way!” Heeding the advice of a UNT adviser, Mathew enrolled in a few criminal justice classes. He enjoyed them so much, that a few classes evolved into a major ultimately resulting in his chosen profession. “Everyone I talked to in law enforcement recommended the Mesquite Police Department,” added Mathew, “It is a very progressive, first class department.”

Mathew's intentions are to eventually join the Tactical (SWAT) Team and ascend the ranks. But first Mathew must complete an intense, rigid training program. After graduating the five month Regional Police Academy, Mathew must make it through a one month in-service academy. Then comes the fun part: Four training phases in which Mathew will be trained and evaluated by four different field training officers.
