School Resource Officer Program

The purpose of the School Resource Officer Program is to provide better law enforcement assistance to the Mesquite Independent School District administrators, facility, and to foster positive attitudes from the students about law enforcement, police officers, and the criminal justice system.

The School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) Program is designed to create positive relationships between the students and officers. The students will learn by interaction that the S.R.O. is not just a police officer, but a person who cares by teaching, counseling, and providing law enforcement for the students. The S.R.O.s are available to assist the teachers in classroom instruction upon request.

A Mesquite Police Department marked patrol vehicle will be parked on campus in a conspicuous place, and will be used by the S.R.O. as a deterrent of crime. The S.R.O. will have an office in the school and will be available to talk with students, parents and teachers concerning questions or problems. The S.R.O. program is a proactive program to help curb criminal activity by positive police contacts.

The goal of the S.R.O. program is to change the attitudes of the youth toward law enforcement. The School Resource Officer program is beneficial to the community, the school district, and to law enforcement.
