Mesquite’s City Lake Park Makes Neighborhood Fishin’ Easy

(Mesquite, Texas) – The new Neighborhood Fishin’ pond at City Lake Park brings the great outdoors into the city, providing family fishing opportunities close to home for city-dwelling Texans. City Lake Park is one of 15 neighborhood lakes that receive frequent stockings of catfish in summer and rainbow trout in winter, which makes for good fishing throughout the season.

TPWD has partnered with the City of Mesquite to provide a quality local fishing experience at City Lake Park. The TPWD Inland Fisheries Division provides fisheries management expertise and fish for regular stockings. The City of Mesquite pays a fee for the stocked fish, and provides and maintains the facilities to ensure a quality fishing experience.

The fish stocking plan consists of bi-weekly stockings of channel catfish or rainbow trout. Channel catfish (12 inches) are stocked from April through November, with the exception of August, and rainbow trout (9-12 inches) December through March. Stocking of trout began December 2.

A valid freshwater fishing license is required for people 17 years of age and older to fish at Mesquite parks. Fishing is allowed by pole and line only (no nets or other devices), with a limit of two fishing poles per person. There is no minimum length limit and a 5 fish daily bag limit per angler for both channel catfish and rainbow trout.
