Be Ready Mesquite: Have a Go Kit

If disasters occur and you are not prepared, they can seem overwhelming. Many times it is hard to have everything that is needed to survive for a couple of days. The Mesquite Office of Emergency Management would like to remind you that there are small steps that you and your family can do to be prepared! In this crucial time of the New Year, it is all that much easier to make a goal now to prepare a little each month for a disaster.

If you plan to set aside a little money each week or month to go towards your family's preparedness, you will be surprised what you can afford. To start, you could plan a budget for buying emergency supplies for a Go Kit. Making a kit can be as easy as every time you go shopping to buy one item that you will put in your kit.

The following list includes some things that could be used in a Go Kit:

Food (Non-perishable items for 3 days per person)
Water (3 days per person)
Medicine
Copies of Important Documents (Social Security card, medical information, etc.)
First Aid Kit
Flashlight
Blanket
Radio (Battery powered)
NOAA Weathr Radio
