If you are interested in volunteering at the Mesquite Public Library System, start by calling either the Mesquite Main Library at 972-216-6220 or the North Branch Library at 972-681-0465 and ask to talk to the Library’s volunteer supervisor. You can also contact City of Mesquite Volunteer Services at 972-329-8331. You will need to complete a volunteer application and there will be a background check for adults 18 years of age and up.
You need to be at least 15 years old to volunteer. Teen volunteers have a shorter application to complete; they do not need the background check but they will need to get a parent’s signature on their application.
We often have teen volunteers who are completing hours for school credit. Speak to the volunteer supervisor and complete an application.
We do not accept court-ordered community service hours at the library. You can find a list of places that do accept court-ordered community service at the City of Mesquite Volunteer Services webpage.
There are a variety of projects that volunteers may be assigned, and we do try to match a volunteer’s ability and interest to their project. Volunteers may be asked to reshelve books and other items, straighten up shelves and keep them in order, inventory the collection, cover new books, help at the computer information help desk, or help at the Genealogy desk. During the summer, volunteers may also work at the Summer Reading Club registration table and with children’s programs.
