Keeping Our Parks Beautiful:
The Parks Department's Travis Sales

Talk to those who work with him, and they will say not enough can be said about Travis Sales and his dedication to the City of Mesquite.

Travis serves as the Park Services Superintendent and as the City's Municipal Arborist. His knowledge and hard work brings recognition to the community. In 2008, the City's Bruton Soccer Complex received the Texas Turfgrass Associations top honor for its well maintained surface, which was achieved through Sales' leadership. That work also earned him the association's "2008 Green Thumb of the Year" award.

Many departments also depend on his hard work and abilities. During the Real Texas Festival, Travis is responsible for site preparation. In addition to that, he also spends a great deal of his time working during the festival to help in a variety of ways from directing traffic to setting up tents and equipment. Whenever a time comes and Travis has nothing to do, he readily asks, how he can help.

During the most recent hurricane response at TEEX, Travis was readily available to provide staff to assist with the set up of the site and then stayed through the night as evacuees arrived making sure nothing was needed. He was always willing to do whatever was asked and provided significant input on how the operation could be improved.

While many say Travis is a perfectionist, he really has a strong desire for the City to look good. Travis is always available to assist with special projects and lends valuable advice and expertise. That makes Travis Sales one of Mesquite's Champions in Service.
