HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM

The Section 8 HCV program assists low income families with the cost of housing. Once the eligible family finds a rental unit and the landlord agrees to lease the unit to them, an inspection will be performed to assure it meets housing quality standards. The requested rent must also pass a rent reasonableness test for determining if rent is comparable to other rents in the area or location. Once approved, the Housing Office will enter into a contract with the landlord for making monthly payments on behalf of the family’s rental obligations. This subsidy is the difference between our program’s applicable payment standard and 30 percent of the family’s monthly adjusted income. The family may choose to rent a unit for more or less than the payment standard, but this choice does not change the amount of subsidy. View more information about this program.
