August 13, 2008 Mesquite…Historic Mesquite, Inc. (HMI) has announced that November 15, 2008 is the date for the 13th annual Dinner Under the Cedars fundraising event, which benefits the restoration of Opal Lawrence Historical Park, a National Register property, a Texas Recorded Historical Landmark and a Texas Department of Agriculture Family Century Farm.

A little celebrity fun will occur this year as Debi Diaz, the midday DJ for 98.7 KLUV-FM will serve as host of the event; Mesquite’s First State Bank is the title sponsor; The Dallas Morning News’ “neighborsgo.com” is the official media sponsor and Texas barbecue caterer, Eddie Deen’s, will bring out its nationally-known foods for the guests. Other surprises are in store and will be revealed as the event nears.

Gates will open at 5 p.m.; tours of the Stephen Decatur Lawrence home and the livestock barn will begin immediately. Auction volunteers will be signing attendees up for the silent and live auctions; the gift shop will offer special items from the Quilt Mania 2 project, of which Historic Mesquite is a part, and the 2008 Christmas ornament for the upcoming holidays.

The live auction will once again include a variety of items from handmade, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces to antiques and local gift certificates. Kyle Foster will serve as auctioneer. The silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. and will continue until 8 p.m., or 10 minutes after the live auction ends, in order to give attendees plenty of time to bid. The live auction begins at 7 p.m., which is also when the buffet line closes.

The gift shop and tours of the Lawrence house will briefly close in order for all volunteers and visitors to participate in the auctions. Once the live auction has closed, the gift shop will re-open and tours will resume.

Tickets prices remain the same - $30 for adults; $25 for seniors 55+, and $20 for children 3 to 11 and must be purchased by November 8. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Credit cards will be accepted for ticket purchase after mid-September as well as for the auction and gift shop the night of the event. For information, call (972) 216-6468.
