Mesquite Parks and Recreation and Old Town Mesquite are proud to announce the annual KIDFISH event at City Lake Park, 403 South Galloway Ave. on May 18. This year, the popular family-friendly fishing activity will begin at 9 a.m. with registration starting at 8 a.m. KIDFISH is a free event for children 16 and younger.
All fishing participants must register for the event and poles and bait will be provided or participants may use their own fishing gear. “The event is FREE” said, Alyssa Smith Marketing Specialist. “We hope that through participation in the event, kids gain an appreciation for the sport of fishing as well as awareness for the environment and its natural resources.” Prizes and trophies will be awarded immediately following the final measuring and weigh-in of the fish.
KIDFISH is a non-profit outreach program designed to educate and provide a hands-on fishing experience and memories for children and families. “The event will give children a chance to experience the sport of fishing as well as the outdoors” said Smith. Families are welcome to spend the day enjoying the park and picnic while watching their children fish.
Donations to help expand the KIDFISH program are accepted for the event, although they are not necessary to participate.

Mesquite residents can take advantage of discounted rates during this year’s 2013 summer season. All swimmers and guests using any of the three Mesquite pools will be required to show an ID to receive the discount.
The City recently changed the fee structure at the pools to offset increased operational expenses. As part of this fee structure, the City Council approved a discount for Mesquite residents. The $3 discount is available for most entry fees.
