Pioneer Road Paving and Drainage Improvements

Pioneer Road Paving and Drainage Improvements
Dallas County Number 21902

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

A contract for the preparation of water and sanitary sewer construction plans in conjunction with the Pioneer Road Project was approved at the January 18, 2005 City Council Meeting. The reconstruction of Pioneer Road will reconstruct the present two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane undivided concrete road from the city limits at McKenzie Road to E. Cartwright Road in the City of Mesquite. The project can potentially extend to Belt Line Road (Five Points) should the City of Balch Springs elect to cooperate in the construction phase. The plans include bridge replacement for South Mesquite Creek near Wilkinson Road, other drainage improvements, sidewalks, reconstruction of the water and sanitary sewer utilities and incorporating aesthetic elements into the bridge and retaining wall designs. The design requires the roadway to be elevated above the 100 year ultimate floodplain. This is a joint venture project with Dallas County Public Works.

Funding for the Pioneer Road project has been appropriated from several General Obligation Bond Sales and Water and Sewer Bonds. The County and the City will each contribute roughly 50% of the overall construction cost which is estimated to be $15 Million.
