Council Approves 0% Financing for City's 50/50 Sidewalk Repair Program Staff | 07-Jul-2008
At today’s regular meeting the Mesquite City Council unanimously approved a deal to provide residents with interest free loans to help pay for sidewalk repairs. The loans would be good for up to 24 months, and would pay for curb, gutter, driveway approach and/or sidewalk improvements.
The deal is part of a 50/50 Sidewalk Repair Program where the City also puts up half the money to pay for the work. Today, the added free finance feature was put in place as part of the City’s “Project Renewal” community revitalization program to help encourage more participation.
Since the Sidewalk Repair Program’s inception in 1989 nearly $4-million dollars in total repairs have been completed. The program is only offered on a first-come first-served basis dependent on available funds every year. During the last fiscal year, Oct. 1, 2006 to Sept. 31, 2007, 115 home owners were helped.
