"Wal-Mart Makes Donations to the Mesquite Animal Shelter"

November 18, 2003, Arlan Hetterly, Store Manager, and Carol Parker, Pet Department Manager of Wal-Mart, located at 200 East Highway 80 in Mesquite, presented $45 in cash to Andy Wise, Animal Control Supervisor for the City of Mesquite. The cash was raised in conjunction with the American Humane’s Very Best Pet Network doghouse raffle held at the Mesquite store.

For more than a year, Wal-Mart has also donated the store’s broken bags of dog & cat food to the animal shelter saving the shelter hundreds of dollars and allowing those funds to be directed to other areas of need. In addition, an adoption board is displayed in the pet department, sponsored by the American Humane’s Very Best Pet Network , displaying pictures of adoptable animals currently at the Mesquite Animal Shelter in need of loving homes.
With Wal-Mart’s help, adoptions rose from 779 animals adopted in fiscal year 2002 to 957 animals adopted during fiscal year 2003!

Thank you Wal-Mart, and all of your employees, for your continued efforts and for making a difference in our community. Your support is greatly appreciated!
