Programs and Activities

American Karate Beginner
American Karate is designed to condition the body, discipline the mind and develop self-confidence through training, basic kicks, hand techniques, stances and self-defense tactics.
Mondays & Thursdays, 7 - 8 p.m.
Ages:  5+
$26 for 4 Weeks

American Karate Advanced
American Karate is designed to condition the body, discipline the mind and develop self-confidence through training, basic kicks, hand techniques, stances and self-defense tactics. Advanced American Karate will cover more difficult techniques including: jumps, turning kicks, joint locks, arm bars, and self-defense techniques.
Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8 - 9 p.m.

Body Shaping
Shape and tighten your figure. Improve your cardiovascular and muscular endurance through the use of weight training and other exercises in our fitness room. This class will involve upper body and lower body muscles.
Mondays & Thursdays, 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Low Impact Aerobics
Re-energize yourself with an effective aerobic workout and great music. Low Impact Aerobics consist of warm-ups, a cardio boosting workout, and exercises that target the arms, belly, buns and thighs.

Swing Out Dancing
Learn basic and advanced partner dance steps to smooth R&B and Jazz. This fun class will teach you all the right steps to get you out on the dance floor and grooving to the music.  No experience is needed!

Ladies Line Dancing
Ladies Line Dancing is a great way to get cardiovascular exercise in a fun way. Learn a few new steps and dance the day away with friends.

Zumba Fitness is a group class where high energy dance music keeps everyone engaged and motivated. This isn’t a workout... it’s a party!

Fitness Room

Adults 50+, registered as senior center participants, may use the weight room free Monday-Friday during senior center operational hours at Evans, Goodbar, and Rutherford Recreation Centers. After senior center operation hours Monday-Friday and on Saturday adults 55+ must register for a weight room card and pay an annual fee.

Walk in Gym
Looking for a controlled, safe environment for walking? Rutherford Gym is closed to the general public and open for adults 50+ registered with the senior program.
Monday to Friday 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Ceramics is the art of creating decorative as well as practical pieces out of clay. The clay is fired at a high temperature and painted or glazed to create a permanent finish. Expert instructor is on hand to teach you how to create ceramic pieces step by step. Participants must purchase supplies.
Thursday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Quilt Guild Stitch and Chat
Each Wednesday from 9 am -1 pm Mesquite Quilt Guild members and friends get together at Rutherford Recreation Center for fun free time and service projects. Participants work on personal and group projects.
Wednesday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Stretch and Flex
Practice the art of exercise through a fitness program using resistance bands, chair drills and stretching.  Designed to maintain flexibility, build strength and provide a moderate aerobic workout.
Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m.

Girlfriends: all my sisters and me…friends, mothers/daughters share your interests, thoughts and good times. The opportunities are endless. Women of all ages are invited to participate the second Tuesday monthly in THE GIRLFRIENDS. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm. Call Dianne Worth at 972-216-7791 for more information.
