Authentic Hatha Yoga
Escape thinking. Escape doing. Find presence with this authentic yoga class. Through the five tenets of Hatha yoga, we will learn to use the body's natural defenses to combat mental and physical stress in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. Perfect for all levels beginner to advanced.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 7 - 8:15 p.m.

Karate Shotokan Style
Build positive attitudes, self confidence, self discipline and respect with Sensei Richardo Yip, a four degree black belt. Shotokan is a style of karate developed from various martial arts from Japan. Students have the ability to become mentors and leaders.
Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:15 - 7:15 p.m.

Chef's Delight
Watch your little chef enjoy creating snacks for the family. In this cooking class your child will learn how to prepare easy, fun recipes that everyone will enjoy. All supplies are included.
Sundays, 3-4 p.m.

Loom Knitting
Learn the basic knit stitches to create your very own hat. Advance to multiple patterns such as a purse or boot socks. It's easy and fun for everyone. Loom, hook and selected yarn are provided.

Juggling
Learn the basic cascade pattern with various types of props in this hands-on class. Juggling equipment is provided during class. Bean bags are not required but encouraged for practice and may be purchased from the instructor for $20 - scarves are $10. After a five week beginner course you can move up to the intermediate level and join the FREE Juggle Club.

Adults 50+ Programs and Activities
Ceramics
Ceramics is the art of creating decorative as well as practical pieces out of clay. The clay is fired at a high temperature and painted or glazed to create a permanent finish. Expert instructor is on hand to teach you how to create ceramic pieces step by step. Participants must purchase supplies.
Monday 9am - 11 am

Senior Exercise

Limber up with a series of stretching and range of motion movements done seated and standing. The moderate exercise class utilizes exercise bands and is offered four days per week. This is a great program for individuals beginning an exercise regimen or to help maintain flexibility.  
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 11am - 11:30am

Blue Grass
Every Monday night (except holidays) Evans Senior Center is transformed into a Bluegrass jam session. Bluegrass musicians from all over the area come to play, sing and socialize and everyone is given an opportunity to share his or her talent for an appreciative audience. The session runs from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Coffee and snacks are served. Monday Night Jam Sessions are free but donations are accepted to help cover the refreshment costs. Adults of all ages are welcome.

Dance to Records
Classic Country Western 45 records play every Tuesday afternoon from 1-3 pm at Evans Senior Center. Dancing is great exercise and an opportunity to make some new friends. Call 972-285-6761 for more information.

Line Dance

Kick up your heal and get a great aerobic workout at Line Dance Practice at Evans Senior Center. Volunteer teachers provide instruction and lead you through the latest moves on Thursday afternoon from 12:30-2:00 pm. This is a free activity that may improve your health and outlook. Members of the group perform locally.

50+ Dance
Let’s go boot scootin’! Adults 50+ join us for live music, dancing, fellowship, and light refreshments at Evans Recreation Center. Dances are the 2nd and 4th Friday nights each month from 7-9:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person. Dress is casual and the music is country. Schedule of bands is available in the monthly newsletter or by calling 972-285-6761.

Memory Café
The Memory Café is a place where individuals with memory loss and their caregivers can get together in a safe, supportive and engaging environment. It is a place that encourages friendship and acceptance.
Who is the Memory Café For?
  • Those persons with a diagnosis of dementia
  • Those persons with mild cognitive impairment
  • People concerned about memory loss
  • Family members and care partners of a person with a diagnosis
Memory Café will offer a time and place where people can interact, laugh, cry, find support, share concerns and celebrate without feeling embarrassed or misunderstood. The Memory Café takes place the 2nd Wednesday each month at 1:30 pm. For more information call 972-285-6761.

LUNCH SERVED
Good nutrition is part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. A hot lunch, providing one-third of the “Recommended Daily Requirement” for a regular diet, is offered for a low suggested donation of seventy-five cents to qualified 60+ participants. Those 59 and under may purchase a meal for $5.50. Lunch is served Monday-Friday at Goodbar and Evans Recreation Centers 11:45 a.m. Advanced reservations are preferred.  “This program is supported, in part, by the City of Mesquite, the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services.”

Servir Almuerzo
Una buena nutrición es parte de mantener un estilo de vida saludable. El almuerzo se ofrece por una donación de $1 a participantes de 60 anos o mas. Los 59 y menores pueden comprar una comida por $5.50.  El almuerzo se sirve de Lunes a Viernes en Goodbar y Evans a las 11:45 am.  Reservaciones avanzadas son preferidas. “Este programa es apoyado, en parte, por la Ciudad de Mesquite, Dallas Area Agency on Aging y el Departamento de Adultos Mayores y Personas Discapacitadas.”
