July Parks & Recreation Month

July is Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Mesquite. This July, we ask the community to get wild about parks and recreation and use this month as an opportunity to get out and benefit from our trails, pools, parks, and much more.

July 1

Walk your dog at Valley Creek Park – (2482 Pioneer Rd.) This park is a great place to take your four legged friend and stroll around the park to experience a new adventure.

July 2

Play Sand Volleyball at Evans Recreation Center, 6 p.m. – (1116 Hillcrest) Bring your friends and family to play a fun game of volleyball. Recreation staff will be on hand to provide equipment and instruction.

July 3

Go to Family Swim at City Lake Aquatic Center, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. – (200 Parkview) Every Thursday from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. the aquatic center is reserved for families. Only $10 for a family of 4 and each additional member is $2.

Go Fishing at Palos Verdes Lake Park – (4800 Olympia) No license is required for 17 and under – just bring your pole and bait.

July 6

Ride the Slide at Vanston Pool, Noon to 7 p.m. – (2913 Oates) The summer is hot, but our pools are cool. Come enjoy a relaxing day by the pool. Residents are $4 and Non-residents are $7

July 7

Open House at Westlake, 6 – 7 p.m. – (421 Gross Rd) The Westlake house is a great place to rent for weddings, baby showers, parties and more. Reserve now for your next event.

July 8

Picnic and Play at Brandy Station Park –  (1919 Brandy Station) Enjoy the great outdoors and eat your lunch or dinner picnic style. Then, try out the playground!

July 9

Do the Mile Challenge at Valley Creek Park, 9 - 10 a.m. – (2482 Pioneer Road) Join the recreation staff to see who can walk the fastest. A prize will be awarded to the winner.

July 10

Join the Playground Frenzy at KIDSQUEST, 10 a.m. – (1625 Gross Road) Join us at KIDSQUEST, an amazing wooden playground for a game of hide- and-seek or tag. Recreation staff will award the winners with a prize.

July 11

Movie in the Park at City Lake Park “Despicable Me 2,” 7 p.m.  – (403 South Galloway) Join us before the show for “Touch-a-Truck.” Fire trucks, police cars and more will be available to climb in and explore. Recreation staff will play games and pass out prizes. Despicable Me 2 begins around 8:30. Bring your blanket and a picnic for a night under the stars.

July 12

Do Archery at Westlake Sports Center, 10 – 11 a.m. - (601 Gross Rd) Instructors will have equipment ready to teach you a free beginner archery lesson. Want to practice what you’ve learned? It’s only $1 to stay and play all day.

July 13

Walk the Trail at Paschall Park – (1001 New Market Rd.) Paschall Park has 1.55 miles of winding, shaded trails to discover. Enjoy an audio book while you stroll.

July 14

Take a FREE Karate Class at Florence Recreation Center, 7 - 8 p.m. – (2501 Whitson Way) Try something new, all ages welcome. Our instructor is excited to teach you new moves.

July 15

Open House at Evans Recreation Center, 6 - 8 p.m. – (1116 Hillcrest) Come discover our workout facilities, open gym and programs. The first 20 visitors will receive a prize.

July 16

Check Out the Park Pals Challenge on Facebook, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.  – Go to our Facebook site: www.facebook.com/mesquitetexas each hour and view the pictures of our staff in a park. Be the first to “name that park” and win a prize!

July 17

Get Your Grill on at Westover Park – (3520 Forney Road) Take dinner outside tonight! Westover Park has two grills, a playground and 1.75 miles of walking trails.

July 20

Try Lap Swimming at Town East Pool, 7 - 9 a.m. – (2525 John Glenn) Lap swimming is a great cardiovascular exercise that puts less strain on your joints than running. Break out of your box, summer is a great time to try something new.

July 21

Open House & BINGO at Goodbar Senior Center, 3 – 5 p.m. – (3000 Concord Drive) Discover our programs and facilities and stay for a game of BINGO! The first 20 visitors will receive a prize.

July 22

Take the Family Fishing at City Lake Park – (403 South Galloway) Our lake is stocked and ready for you to catch the big one. Bring your fishing poles, bait, the family and a smile.

July 23

Ride Your Bike Around Paschall Park - (1001 New Market Rd.) Blaze the 1.55 mile trail around Paschall Park on your bike! While you are there play on the ball fields and have lunch in the pavilions.

July 24

FREE Ice Cream Social for Teens at Dunford Recreation Center, 6:30 – 8 p.m. – (1015 Green Canyon) This social is geared towards teens ages 12 – 15 years old. Bring your friends or meet some new ones over a bowl of ice cream!


July 25

Family Game Night and Open House at Florence Recreation Center, 6 – 8 p.m. – (2501 Whitson Way)  Come explore our workout facilities, open gym and programs! Gather around and pull out a board game. The first 20 visitors will receive a prize.

July 26

Aqua Zumba Class at Vanston Pool, 9 – 10 a.m. – (2913 Oates) This class gives a new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Integrating the Zumba formula with traditional aqua fitness disciplines forms a challenging, water based workout.  Drop-ins welcome for $5.

July 27

Play a Game of Tennis at Westlake Sports Center, Noon – 6 p.m. – (601 Gross Rd.) Pick up your racket and give it a swing! This facility features three outdoor courts, three covered courts, a pro shop, ball machine rental and a dressing room.  Indoor courts are $5 and outdoor courts are $2 to play.

July 28

Play Disc Golf at Porter Park (517 Via Avenida), Debusk Park (1625 Gross Rd.) or Paschall Park (1001 New Market Rd.) – Try your hand at disc golf! The City of Mesquite has three disc golf courses in local parks. Each course has its own characteristics and is designed with different levels of players in mind. Courses are listed from beginner to advanced.

Open House at Lakeside Activity Center, 6 – 7 p.m. – (101 Holley Park Dr.) Lakeside Activity Center is a great place to rent for weddings, baby showers, parties and more. Reserve now for your next event.

July 30

Walk Your Dog at Town East Park – (2724 Town East Blvd.) This park has 1.2 miles of trails and is ready to host you and your best friend during your walk.

July 31

Zip-line at Camp Rorie Galloway, 6 – 8 p.m. – (3100 Lawson Road) Climb the 32 foot tower and zip 384 feet  across an open field  on our zip-line. All equipment and training are FREE! Don’t miss your opportunity to discover Camp Rorie Galloway.
